Privacy Policy

When you sign in using Google OAuth, we collect:

• Your email address
• Your Google profile information (name and profile picture)
• A unique Google account identifier

This information is used solely for authentication and account management purposes.

We collect and store the following usage data on our servers:

• Number of manga bubble scans performed
• Number of chat messages sent
• Credit usage and remaining balance
• Subscription tier information
• Timestamps of API requests

This data is used to enforce credit limits, provide usage statistics, and improve our service.

Subscription payments are processed through Google Play Billing. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details. Please refer to Google's privacy policy for information about how they handle payment data.

The following data is stored on your mobile device and is not sent to our servers:

• All manga bubble images you capture
• Manga volume information and cover photos
• OCR text results and translations
• Your vocabulary list and word frequency data
• Chat message history
• Anki flashcard decks

You have complete control over this data. You can delete any or all of it at any time through the app interface or by uninstalling the application.

Optional Google Drive Backup: If you enable the Google Drive backup feature, your locally stored data (including scanned images, vocabulary lists, flashcards, and chat history) is uploaded to your personal Google Drive account. This backup is stored according to Google's privacy policy and data retention practices. You can disable this feature or delete your backup at any time.

When you scan a manga page:

1. The image is sent from your device to either OpenAI's API or Google's Gemini API via our servers for OCR and translation processing
2. The image is processed in real-time and is not stored on our servers
3. The OCR results and translations are returned to your device and stored locally
4. Your image is processed according to the respective provider's (OpenAI or Google) privacy policy and data retention practices

We do not maintain any permanent copies of your manga images on our servers. To prevent duplicate charges (e.g., if the app retries a request), processed images may be temporarily cached in server memory for up to 5 minutes, after which they are automatically discarded. The choice of which AI provider processes your images may vary based on system load, availability, and configuration, but your privacy protections remain the same regardless of which provider is used.

We use OpenAI's GPT models to provide OCR, translation, chat, and text-to-speech functionality. Images and text you submit are processed by OpenAI according to their API terms and privacy policy. Please review OpenAI's privacy policy at https://openai.com/privacy for more information.

We use the following Google services:

• Google Sign-In: For user authentication
• Google Play Billing: For in-app subscription purchases
• Google Gemini API: For OCR, translation, and AI chat functionality as an alternative to OpenAI, and exclusively for translation game features
• Google Drive: For optional cloud backup of your locally stored data (if you enable this feature)

We use Sentry for error tracking and performance monitoring on both our backend servers and the mobile app. Sentry may collect error messages, stack traces, device information, and session data. We do not send your email address or username to Sentry; only an anonymized user identifier is used. For more information, please review Sentry's privacy policy at https://sentry.io/privacy/.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

• AI Service Providers: With OpenAI and Google Gemini for image processing, translation, text-to-speech, and AI chat services
• Error Monitoring: With Sentry for error tracking and performance monitoring (anonymized identifiers only)
• Cloud Backup: With Google Drive if you enable the optional backup feature
• Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights and safety
• Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets

We retain the following data:

• Account Information: Retained while your account is active. Upon account deletion, personal identifiers are anonymized after a grace period (see our Account Deletion Guide for details). The anonymized account record is retained indefinitely.
• Usage Statistics: Records of API usage (endpoints called, timestamps, token counts, costs) are retained indefinitely in association with your account record for accounting and operational purposes. After account deletion, this data remains but is linked only to an anonymized record.
• Locally Stored Data: Retained on your device until you manually delete it or uninstall the app
• Google Drive Backups: If you enabled cloud backup, your backup data remains in your Google Drive account until you delete it manually

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information:

• All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
• User authentication uses industry-standard OAuth 2.0
• Server access is restricted and monitored
• We regularly review and update our security practices

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we store about you
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data. See our Account Deletion Guide for instructions.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate information
• Data Portability: Export your locally stored data at any time through the app
• Opt-Out: Uninstall the app to stop all data collection
• Lodge a Complaint: If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority

If you are located in the EU/EEA, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

• Contract Performance (Art. 6(1)(b)): Processing necessary to provide you with the Fukidashi service, including account management, credit tracking, and AI-powered scanning and translation
• Legitimate Interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): Processing for error monitoring (via Sentry), service improvement, abuse prevention, and retention of anonymized usage data
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Processing of your manga images by third-party AI providers (OpenAI and Google Gemini), and optional Google Drive backup. You may withdraw consent at any time by discontinuing use of those features or deleting your account

Fukidashi is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top
• Sending an in-app notification for significant changes

Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. Specifically, manga images and text are sent to OpenAI and Google Gemini servers located in the United States for AI processing. Error monitoring data is sent to Sentry's servers, which may also be located in the United States. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using Fukidashi, you consent to the transfer of your information to these servers.

Fukidashi is a mobile application and does not use browser cookies. We use encrypted session tokens (JWT) stored securely on your device for authentication purposes. These tokens expire after 30 days. We use Sentry for error monitoring and performance tracking but do not use any advertising trackers or third-party analytics services.
